Corrugated cardboard boxes come in various designs, with different types of corrugated paper used for specific purposes. The types of corrugation include A, B, C, D, and E. Each type has a different load-bearing capacity. For example, B and E flutes are commonly used for postal boxes, while BC flutes are used for 3-ply and 5-ply boxes to support larger or heavier products.
Corrugated cardboard boxes play a crucial role in all types of businesses. They are not only used for packaging products to maintain their condition but also for protecting against pressure from stacking, preventing damage during transport, and aiding in ease of shipping. Furthermore, they serve as a vital marketing tool by providing an opportunity to design packaging that enhances the product’s value and makes it more appealing. Printing logos, product information, and details on the packaging helps promote and attract customer attention.
When entrepreneurs understand the advantages and disadvantages of different box types and know the type of product being packaged, they can select the appropriate cardboard material. This helps reduce production costs and choose the best design and materials suited to the product’s needs.
Corrugated cardboard boxes are essential for protecting and supporting the weight of goods and products. The strength of these boxes is typically classified by the number of layers, and they can be divided into three main types:
2-Ply Corrugated Box (Single Face)
This type consists of two smooth sheets of cardboard glued together with a single layer of corrugated paper in the middle. It is commonly used for lightweight, small-sized products. The 2-ply corrugated box is the most popular and affordable option available.
3-Ply Corrugated Box (Single Wall)
Made of three sheets of paper, this box includes two flat sheets with a single layer of corrugated paper sandwiched between them. This design allows the box to carry more weight and provides better protection against impact. It is suitable for medium-sized products and parcels.
5-Ply Corrugated Box (Double Wall)
This box consists of five sheets of cardboard, including three flat sheets and two corrugated layers positioned in between. The flutes of these corrugated layers can be customized to suit different needs. This box can support heavier products and provide better impact resistance, making it ideal for large and heavy goods. The dual flutes enhance the box’s ability to bear weight and resist punctures.
